Unlike many competitors, Cerwin-Vega designs and manufactures its own woofers and cabinets at its home facility in California. A rugged diecast woofer frame provides rigidity and precision for tighter tolerances and higher overall efficiency. The oversize magnet structure, combined with a proprietary metal alloy voice coil former, maximizes magnetic and electrical efficiency. A 1/2 thick, 8 lb. steel top plate and a 3 voice coil gives reliable operation at high power levels. Cerwin-Vegas innovative venting system makes the woofer see an acoustic load larger than a single oversize port, resulting in a 3 to 6 dB increase in bass response! The direct radiating, slot venting system allows for perfect coupling with the floor, permitting maximum bass loading regardless of whether the cabinet is placed in a corner, near a wall, or even in the middle of the floor! A 1 3/8 (35 mm) socket mount located in the top of the cabinet permits the use of a pole for quick and easy positioning of a Cerwin-Vega full-range or mid-high cabinet above the subwoofer. Connecting through the SUB-15s internal 150 Hz high-pass crossover substantially improves the effective power handling of the pole-mounted mid-high cabinet while minimizing the amplifier load.
